Autumn Term 2018
Remember, remember.......

Welcome back to the new academic year! The children have been amazing as we've dived right back in to the job of growing our minds. Our topic is focused on The First World War, designed to coincide with the 100th anniversary of its end.

Our Reflection Area
This is a new area to our classroom and we are exploring how best to use it. This term's value is Friendship and we have displayed some pieces of work which show our thoughts. Hopefully the children will start to use it as a place where they can go and reflect and add some more of their ideas to the display.

We've talked about the poppies and how they grew in the fields where the soldiers died. We created these pictures using our knowledge of how to make tones of green, edges of cardboard and finger painting. The effect was accentuated by using textured wall paper as our canvas. The children were really pleased with their efforts, as was I.

We have started to use the book "War Game" to follow the fortunes of four young Men who signed up in 1914. We started to explore some aspects of persuasive language as we looked at Propaganda Posters and their influence on the Nation.

Picture
The other text that we are reading is War Horse. We shall be developing our comprehension skills whilst enjoying an excellent novel. In fact, many of the children have gone ahead and finished the book - they have been sworn to secrecy, all spoilers are banned!

Summer Term 2018
The 1980s

Picture

This term was all about the 1980s. Thank you for the wealth of replies we received to our letters asking for memories of this decade. We learnt about things such as fashion, music and  Margaret Thatcher as well as considering the impact of events like Hillsborough and the Royal Wedding. The end of term brought a rousing rendition of the Birdie Song as our part in the Summer performance!

Autumn Term 2017
Me and My World

Picture
We talked about where we'd been and learnt about our counties.

Picture
For a homework we shared the places we'd been around Europe

Picture
In art we looked at Kandinsky with Mrs Law and created pictures using recycled materials

We joined with the rest of Key Stage 2 for an afternoon of crafts to celebrate Diwali.
Creating Christmas, as usual, was great fun!

 Summer Term 2017

Our topic this term is Ancient Egypt!

Spring Term 2017

Our topic for the Spring Term is Lovely London!

Spring Term 2015

Picture
This term our theme is 'African Adventure'.
The focus of this topic is to understand the diversity of the physical features of Africa and how they differ from the United Kingdom.

Children will also gain an understanding of some of the ways of life there.

Autumn Term 2014

This term, our theme is 'Remember, Remember'.
We will be using ‘War Games’ by Michael Foreman, ‘The Best Christmas Ever’ by Michael Murpurgo and a range of World War One non-fiction texts as our stimulus and adopting a creative approach across all areas of the curriculum.
Here are a few pics of our classroom, work and displays.
The first photo is a Peace Patchwork made by children of their peaceful places. The next one is is their group non fiction page about life 100 years ago. Others are general classroom pics.
