Welcome to Keller Class - Helen Keller, born on June 27, 1880 in Tuscumbia, Alabama. At 19 months old, Keller contracted an unknown illness which left her both deaf and blind. She lived, as she recalled in her autobiography, "at sea in a dense fog." Despite this she became the first deaf-blind person to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree. She went on to campaign for many causes which she deeply believed in and was a prolific author. Her attitude in overcoming adversity in order to campaign for the rights of others is one that reflects many of the Christian Values that form the frame work and foundation for life at Culworth Academy.

Keller Class have spent time working on two whole class batik collaborations. In between sketching landmark studies in class, with coloured biros and pencil, all the children had the chance to draw in glue on top of the elephant and peacock batik designs, before painting once the glue had dried. After the designs were washed to remove the glue, they could decorate the batiks with metallic shapes and sequins to pick out the patterns and details.

Keller class have been exploring Rajasthani Puppets.
They have spent time designing, creating and finally making their very own Rajasthani puppet characters. They began with pencil sketches taking care to include the puppet's well recognised feature of large, prominent eyes before considering further the details they would add for their character. They modelled their puppets out of papier mache. |
|
They dressed their puppets with a base fabric before adding extra details on top. They included sequins, braid, ribbon and felt amongst other suitable decorations. They used metallic pens and sticky gems to accentuate further features. I'm sure you'll agree they look wonderfully theatrical and every puppet oozes it's very own distinct personality and mischievous character!

Our Favourite Reading BooksOn Children in Need day we all brought in our favourite reading books and shared with the class why we had chosen them.

Science - Sound
Sounds are vibrations. The bigger the vibrations the louder the sound. The size of a vibration is its amplitude.
