The children arrived into school on Wednesday January 3rd to a Polar, winter wonderland. In the middle of each desk were ice cubes containing further clues to our new topic. One of the clues was the advert shown above. The children then responded to the advert asking for men to join The Endurance. They were each assigned a real crew member to research further. Taking on the role of this new crew member, each child worked on a persuasive letter to Shackleton to ensure they got a place on board. The following week the children arrived to school where they found a reply, accepting their applications and so the voyage begins...

Autumn Term 2015
This term our theme is 'Hard times'.
We will be looking at how life was hard during the Victorian era. We will be using ‘Street Child’ by Berlie Doherty, extracts from Dickens novels and a range of non-fiction texts as our stimulus and adopting a creative approach across all areas of the curriculum.
Summer Term 2015
Our topic this term is called 'Under the Sea'.
The main focus of the topic is Oceans and sea and the plant, animals and ship wreaks that can be found there. We will learn about the locations and names of the oceans and the largest seas. . We will look at the creatures that live there and the history of some of the ships that lie on the sea bed. Our main text for this term is Kesuke’s Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo.

Our topic this term is called 'War Games'. The main focus of the topic is life in the early 1900s and The Great War.
We will learn about what it was like to live in the 1900s and the impact the Great War had on families, the United Kingdom and the world.
Our main text for this term is 'War Games' by Michael Foreman.
Spring Term 2014
The main focus of the topic is life in Italy today and in the past. We will learn about the geography of the country and where the famous landmarks are as we travel round Italy.
We will then travel back in time and travel round Roman Italy, learning about what life was like for an ancient Roman. Our main texts for this term are-

Exploring the coldest places on Earth
Below are some suggested activities that you can do, that will support the learning in the classroom.
Literacy – encourage your child to read across a range of genre and provide opportunities to discuss texts.
Numeracy – discuss time (e.g. television programmes), practise measuring (e.g. cooking, reading scales) and times tables facts
Topic- Look at websites with information about the ancient Egyptian Gods, pharaohs and Tutankhamen. Visit a museum with collections from ancient Egypt.
P.E – Practise throwing and catching ball skills.
