Archive - some of our past highlights

Picture
Culworth Academy has been the subject of another important inspection - the Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools (SIAMS).

This is with particular reference to how we operate as a Church of England School and looks at our ethos and Religious Education.   Every time a Church school has an Ofsted Inspection, the SIAMS inspection automatically follows.  This is in a similar format to the Ofsted one and a copy of the Inspector’s judgments of Culworth Academy can be downloaded below...

We are really delighted to commend this report to you.  The outcome is one that judged the school to be Outstanding across the board and the Inspector was very complimentary during his feedback to us after his day in school.

This wonderful achievement is the result of sustained effort by the whole team at Culworth and we would like to record our thanks to them.  We are conscious and also very grateful for the substantial support provided by so many parents without which, the school would not be what it is.

If you have any comments or questions about the report, we would be happy to hear from you – please feel free to contact us via the school office.

With best wishes,
Sue Lawrence,
Headteacher
Gill Nunn, Chair of Governors

Culworth comes first at Swimming Gala

Picture
9th June 2014
Last Monday afternoon, Culworth entered a swimming gala at Daventry Leisure Centre.  We competed against six other schools in the cluster in front crawl, breast stroke and back stroke races.

The children did really well and overall we came First!

Congratulations to our swimming team:  Emma McGlamery, Amelia Burgess, Olivia Smith, Bethany Powell, Susie Syme, Annabel Monk, Josh South, Joseph Upton, Noah Whiston, Ben Lawson, Adam Leibling and Fred Allanson.

Also a big thank you to all the parents that were able to transport children and stayed to support Culworth.

Culworth School converts to Academy status

Picture
From the 1st September 2013, the majority of the primary schools in the South Northants Chenderit Cluster converted to Academy status in two Multi Academy Trusts (MATs) - South Northamptonshire Church of England Schools MAT and the South Northamptonshire Village Schools MAT.

The two MATs will also work together under a Local Collaborative Trust.  These changes formalise the close ties that have been developed over the last few years and to date the schools involved include Boddington, Chacombe, Chipping Warden, Culworth, Kings Sutton, Middleton Cheney and St Loys.

The move to convert to Academy status originated from a Local Authority challenge to the schools to consider how best to provide support for themselves in the future.  A long year of research, investigation and evaluation led to a decision that the best way forward was to convert to an Academy together as a Multi Academy Trust.  For all of the schools involved, the decision to become an Academy has been about building a better future - one that secures the schools for their local communities, allows increased autonomy and focuses resources to drive higher standards for all involved.

One of the key benefits of working together will be the ability to jointly procure services, generating savings that can be invested back into the delivery of primary education.  There will however be other benefits including the sharing of data, knowledge and experience and the ability to work together on joint projects.  Academy status will allow the schools to innovate for example through the development of personalised curriculums or through the use of technology.

It will also provide autonomy for the schools particularly in terms of how they chose to spend their budgets which will now come directly from the government.

The schools have developed a shared vision that aims to secure the future of excellent inspirational village schools for their local communities. Becoming an academy is central to this vision and ensuring the schools will be sustainable and economically viable for the long term.

Mrs Gill Nunn, Chair of Governors for Culworth and Boddington Primary Schools says,  ‘As governors we are all excited.  It has taken an awful lot of hard work to get here, the evaluations, consultations and legalities have been complex but we are delighted to have reached conversion day.  This is good news for our schools and our communities, we are stronger together but we retain our individual freedoms.  We are committed to providing the very best education for our children and becoming an academy is key to our ability to deliver the best.’

Silverstone Bike Ride - Tuesday 14th May 2013

The rain poured but the support we got at the Silverstone Family Bike Ride around the 3 1/2 mile circuit was fantastic!
The kind volunteers from the CPSA served up hotdogs and snacks to keep us going and, despite the weather, a good time was had by all.
We raised over £150!

Happy's Circus comes to town...

The CPSA organised a fantastic show on Wednesday 17th April 2013 to raise funds for work on the new outdoor classroom area for The Drey, which will enable children to spend more time being taught in an outside environment - our weather permitting!
We hope to bring you more photos soon...

Children look forward to reaping what they sow...

Mini Meadows Pre-school at Culworth hit the headlines last month with this article on the youngsters planting fruit seedlings and looking forward to harvesting their own food.

Easter Egg Competition 2013

The children produced some more wonderful exhibits for the recent Easter Egg Competition held at the end of our Spring term.
The competition was split into different years groups, with additional opportunities for the grown -ups and older siblings to have a go too!
Thanks go to the CPSA and all their helpers who organise this event and help to raise valuable funds for our children at school.

Primary Maths Workshop - 12th March 2013

Picture
We will be holding two parents’ workshops on Tuesday, 12th March 2013.  The first is at Boddington School from 1.30pm – 3.00pm and the second is at Culworth School from 6.30pm to 8.00pm.
Please feel free to attend whichever is most convenient for you.
The aim of the workshop is to give parents an understanding of the calculation method taught in primary schools.  You will have a chance to look in detail and have a go at each method.  There will also be time to ask questions.

Maypole Day a great success!

The weather stayed fine enough for long enough this afternoon for everyone to enjoy the Maypole Dancing. More photos here...
Parents came to watch Morris dancing, contemporary choreography and even had a chance to join in!

The CPSA organised a fabulous Tea and Cake Stall in the Hall, there were Plants for Sale and lots of fun to be had at various stalls in the Old School Garden.

All in all, a wonderful afternoon for the children and their families which raised £362 for the children's equipment.

Our Gardening Club wins a prize!

Picture
Culworth School's Gardening Club has scooped second prize in a gardening competition to find the best school gardens in Northamptonshire.

The Club is organised by Alan Perkins and meets once a week to run its garden on organic principles on an allotment next to the school.  It produces enough crops to make soups, pies, chutney and jam which we hope will be on sale at the Christmas Fair.

The Club was awarded £200 worth of vouchers to help with the running costs of their prize-winning garden.

Open Evening

Picture
We held an OPEN EVENING on Tuesday 4th October 2011 for current parents and those considering the school for September 2012.
This was a great opportunity for current and prospective parents to visit the school ‘out of hours’, to visit all the classrooms, see the latest classroom technology in action and gain a broader understanding of what we do at the school. Teachers and Governors were also on hand to discuss all aspects of school life. Visitors also got a chance to visit the Mini Meadows Pre-school which is based at the school.

Children perform in a huge orchestra

Musicians from Culworth School took part in a fantastic concert at Chenderit School on Tuesday afternoon, the culmination of many workshops across ten schools in our cluster.
The Sinfonia ViVa project is designed to encourage children make music together and to give them the experience of being in an orchestra.

Swimathon

Picture
Over 70 pupils took part in in this special fund-raising event at Brackley Pool on 18th June.
In all, they swam over 58km or 2355 lengths of the pool to help raise money for the recent building work.  Thanks to everyone who organised, helped and took part on the day!

Grand School Reunion

Picture
Over 200 people came along to our first ever School Reunion on Saturday 11th June.
It was a wonderful afternoon of music, dancing, chatting, eating and drinking as pupils from the last century mixed with current pupils to view old school photographs and re-live memories. Friends of the school, old and new, reunited.

Sinfonia ViVa visit us

Many of the children in our School Orchestra were drafted in to help with a music-making workshop in the School Hall today under the leadership of the Sinfonia ViVa orchestra.
The aim of the experience was to bring together gifted and talented KS2 pupils to develop their musical skills - to work creatively together and broaden their musical knowledge.
You can see and hear some of the results right here...
