Culworth CE Primary School Newsletter

Issue 8 - December 2008

16th December 2008

Dear Parents,

Parent Governor

After a close-run election, our new Parent Governor is Mrs Samantha Ellis.  I would like to thank both Mrs Ellis and Mr Hanrahan for putting their names forward for the ballot.

Christmas Fair

A huge thank you to everybody who organised, helped with and came to our Christmas Fair. Altogether CPSA raised £1200 and we all had a lovely evening.

Values Meeting

I have been asked by several parents who could not attend our meeting about Values Schools for information on the subject and I have tried to sum it up as follows:

A “ Values School ” aims for good strong social relationships and self-esteem, resulting in respect for others and the environment, within a coherent school community.  It also gives a common vocabulary, which we all understand.  This helps us to deal with behavioural and emotional issues in a positive and supportive manner, thereby providing a solid foundation enabling our pupils to make informed choices by reflecting, thinking and understanding.

So far this term in school we have been working with the children on the following values: Cooperation, Respect and Caring.  We would like to continue to focus on a different value each month and share this in our newsletters so that you can also reinforce this at home.

We would also like to set up a committee of staff, governors, children and parents to help us identify and agree our next values and so work together as a coherent school community.  One or two parents kindly offered to join this committee at the meeting and, if you were unable to attend the meeting but would also like to join, please come and see me.  We hope to hold our first meeting in January at a convenient date and time for all interested.

100 Club

The winners for December are Mrs Talbot, Mrs Case and Mr and Mrs Koster.

Christmas Concert

Thank you to everybody for sending back the reply slips for the concert.  We will not be issuing tickets but we do have a check list of parents for fire regulations. We are now full on both evenings but do still have some spaces for the afternoon performances.

Christmas Party

Just a reminder that this Thursday is our school Christmas party when parents kindly provide the food for the children to share (there will be no hot dinners on that day).  Children are welcome to wear party clothes that day but will still need to bring sensible shoes and a coat for outdoor playtimes and lunchtime.  There will be a pantomime in the afternoon for the children’s entertainment.

Christingle Service

Once again, just to remind you that we will be having our school Christingle service in church on Friday, 19th December at 1pm and the children may sit with you to light their candles.  You may then take your children home after the service finishes.  The school bus will be leaving at 2pm.

On behalf of all the staff, children and governors may I wish you a Happy Christmas and a peaceful New Year. I look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday, 6th January 2009.
